De Facto
This series was made during an amazing journey through Georgia and Abkhazia. Abkhazia was formerly part of Georgia and declared independence in 1992. A short, bloody war followed, lasting 13 months. Abkhazia is an oddity, a de facto nation recognized by only a handful of other countries. This makes travel there interesting, to put it politely. Both sides of the war were badly hurt by the conflict. The decay is a silent witness to that pain. My pictures will take you on a tour across the former Russian Riviera.
